Experience Japan in Comfort with FMJ Coach Tours

Travel should never feel rushed.

At Follow Me Japan (FMJ), our Coach Tours are thoughtfully designed for travellers who prefer a relaxed pace — holidays that prioritise appreciation over acceleration, depth over density, and comfort over constant movement.

While many traditional coach tours focus on covering as many destinations as possible within a limited time, often with early departures and tightly packed schedules, FMJ takes a different approach. We focus on quality. Creating a well-paced, comfortable journey that allows you to truly experience each destination.

With decades of experience curating journeys across Japan and beyond, we focus on creating meaningful travel experiences that allow you to truly enjoy each destination.

The Philosophy Behind FMJ Coach Tours

Unlike itineraries that attempt to pack in as many attractions as possible, FMJ Coach Tours are built around balance.

We allocate sufficient time at sightseeing spots so you can explore, take photographs, browse local shops, or simply pause and absorb the atmosphere. Our daily schedules are planned to avoid overly early departures where possible — typically leaving the hotel around 9:00am — and we generally aim to arrive at accommodations earlier in the evening.

This allows you to:

  • Enjoy hotel facilities
  • Rest adequately
  • Settle in comfortably
  • Travel at a pace suitable for both young and elderly guests

Our tours are especially popular with multi-generational families and mature travellers who value comfort and thoughtful pacing.

Accommodation: Comfort and Authenticity

We place strong emphasis on selecting good-quality accommodations that enhance your travel experience.

Where available, we typically use 4–5 star hotels or the best accommodation in the area. In more remote destinations where such ratings may not exist, we select the most suitable and comfortable property available.

Whenever possible, we incorporate:

  • Hot spring ryokans for an authentic Japanese stay
  • Traditional kaiseki dinners showcasing seasonal cuisine
  • For selected luxury tours, ryokans with private hot spring baths

For elderly guests or those with mobility considerations, we request rooms with beds as much as possible — even within Japanese-style properties. Where futon bedding is used, we may request double-layer futons to provide additional cushioning and height.

For family-friendly tours, we may also utilise good-quality 3-star hotels to maintain a more accessible price point.

While specific accommodations may vary depending on availability and location, we always prioritise comfort, quality, and overall experience when making our selections.

Meals: A Taste of Local Japan

Food is an essential part of cultural discovery.

Where possible, we dine at carefully selected local restaurants so guests can experience regional specialties and authentic cuisine. From fresh seafood in coastal towns to mountain vegetables in rural regions, we strive to introduce the flavours unique to each destination.

Dietary restrictions and preferences are communicated in advance wherever possible, and we do our best to work with restaurants to accommodate guests’ needs or suggest suitable alternatives.

Spacious and Comfortable Coaches

Comfort continues on the road.

We utilise spacious coaches that provide ample seating room, sufficient luggage storage, and space for shopping purchases along the way. Where possible, we secure larger-sized coaches that offer increased legroom or additional seating space.

Group sizes are intentionally kept moderate to ensure comfort and a pleasant travel atmosphere.

  • Luxury tours typically accommodate 6–10 guests
  • Family-friendly tours may accommodate up to approximately 20 guests

On longer journeys, we make regular stops at rest areas for comfort breaks, and drinking water is provided on the coach to ensure a pleasant journey throughout.

Smaller groups allow for more personalised attention and greater overall comfort during the journey.

Experienced Local Guides

Our tours are led by experienced, English-speaking Japanese guides.

As locals, they offer cultural insight, historical knowledge, and contextual understanding that enriches your travel experience. Beyond providing explanations, they serve as cultural bridges; helping guests appreciate nuances that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Their familiarity with local customs, seasonal highlights, and regional differences allows for a more authentic introduction to Japan.

Special Activities

From time to time, we incorporate special activities designed to deepen cultural understanding.

These may include:

  • Guided nature walks
  • Craft workshops
  • Cooking classes
  • Scenic train rides
  • Seasonal or cultural events

Such activities are typically experiences that are not easily arranged independently due to language barriers, booking complexity, minimum group requirements, or remote locations.

While we endeavour to include enriching experiences where appropriate, special activities are not guaranteed on every tour and vary by itinerary.

FMJ Local Activities (Japan Only)

In select regions where we maintain close partnerships with local communities, we may include what we call FMJ Local Activities.

These are specially arranged, meaningful experiences developed through our direct relationships with local partners. Examples may include:

  • Visiting a local elementary school
  • Participating in rice planting or harvesting
  • Becoming a rice paddy owner for a season
  • Visiting local farms with meals prepared by farmers

As these experiences depend on our local partnerships, they are available only in certain destinations within Japan.

Accommodating Special Needs

We do our best to accommodate special requests wherever possible, including:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Bed-type preferences
  • Baby cots
  • Accessible rooms
  • Mobility considerations

Our tours are designed to be both elderly-friendly and child-friendly, making them suitable for multi-generational travel.

Requests are communicated in advance, and we work closely with our partners to provide the best possible arrangements or suitable alternatives where needed.

Travel Insurance Included

For added peace of mind, travel insurance coverage is included in our tours.

This allows guests to travel with greater confidence and removes the need to purchase separate travel insurance independently.

Our Non-Japan Coach Tours

Beyond Japan, FMJ curates thoughtfully paced tours to selected countries and regions.

Unlike itineraries that attempt to cover multiple countries in a single trip, we focus on exploring one country or region at a time. This allows for a more comprehensive and immersive experience.

Key Features

  • Small group sizes, typically 8–15 guests
  • Good-quality hotels in convenient locations
  • Local city guides for destination expertise
  • Accommodation of special needs (subject to availability)
  • Travel insurance included

While our non-Japan tours follow the same philosophy of comfort and quality, the range of experiences and local partnerships may vary by destination. Where possible, we include meaningful activities to enhance the journey and provide a deeper understanding of the local culture.

Our Commitment

At FMJ, our focus is simple. We create a comfortable, enjoyable, and memorable holiday experience.

Every itinerary is carefully planned with attention to pacing, quality, and overall comfort. From accommodations and meals to transportation and activities, we aim to deliver a well-balanced journey that allows you to travel with ease and confidence.

Our experienced team works closely with trusted partners to ensure a smooth experience from start to finish — so you can focus on enjoying your trip.
