Day 02 (Wed, 02 Dec’26)
Yokohama – Lake Yamanaka

Start your drive by exploring the seaside town of Kamakura before heading over to Lake Yamanaka. Formerly the centre of Japan’s government, numerous temples, shrines and historical sites are located here, including the famous Great Buddha. The 11.4m high bronze statue of Amida Buddha is the second tallest in Japan and has been kept intact since its construction in the mid-13th century, outlasting its surrounding building.

Feast your eyes on the many views of Mt Fuji from the sights around its base today. Marvel at the eight springs of Oshino Hakkai where crystal clear snow melt from Mt Fuji bubbles up after filtering down the mountain over 80 years. Then dive into the world of music at the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum which collection of antique music boxes and European-style garden will transport you to a different time and place. Finally, catch sight of one of Japan’s New Three Views at Miho no Matsubara which black shores and pine trees paint a stunning picture with Mt Fuji across the bay.

Waking up to views of Mt Fuji out your window, catch more of the famous mountain from the thrilling Mishima Skywalk, the longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in Japan at 400m long. From here, you can see Japan’s highest peak, Mt Fuji, and Japan’s deepest bay, Suruga Bay, all from the same vantage point. Travel over to the charming Shuzenji Onsen, home to the historical Shuzenji Temple, a peaceful bamboo grove, quaint cafes and other historical sights. Rich in history and traditional beauty, this is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll.

Explore more of the Izu Peninsula today first with a visit to Mt Omuro. An extinct volcano shaped like an upside-down bowl, this grass covered mountain is known for its 360-degree panoramic views from the top, including the sight of Mt Fuji in the distance. Next to it is Izu Shaboten Zoo, a unique botanical garden and zoo famous for its adorable onsen-loving capybaras. Head down to the historical Perry Road where traditional ‘sea cucumber’-walled houses line the picturesque street, housing plenty of quaint shops, restaurants, and cafes to explore. Stop by at the gushing Joren Waterfall to feel the mighty spray and cool atmosphere of this 25m cascade in a quiet forest.

Stopover in Hakone on your way back to Tokyo and see some of the many attractions of this famous town. Take a cruise on the iconic Lake Ashi where you can fully enjoy the scenery of the serene lake, surrounding forests and Mt Fuji looming in the distance. Then take the Hakone ropeway up to Owakudani where an otherworldly scenery of sulphurous fumes and hot springs await, along with its famous blackened hot spring-cooked eggs. Finally, admire some unique art works spread across the open spaces of the Hakone Open Air Museum where art combines beautifully with the surrounding nature.
