Make a stop at Shichiku Garden to admire the beautiful blooms. This garden is the creation of flower-loving grandma, Akiyo Shichiku, who turned an empty field into a beautiful garden with 2,500 varieties of flowers and various native Hokkaido trees.

When in Tokachi, be sure to try the local speciality, butadon! Slices of quality grilled pork coated in a special sauce and placed on a bowl of fluffy rice, this simple dish expertly done is a mouth-watering delight!

Tokachi – Akangawa
(Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: La Vista Akangawa (Private Hot Spring) or similar

Get up close to Hokkaido’s large brown bears at Sahoro Bear Mountain. Visitors can watch the bears roaming freely in the forest and view them from various trails, a bear point, and even a bear watching bus.

Feel the vastness of Hokkaido at Naitai Highland Farm, Japan’s largest public pasture at 1,700ha. Take a break and admire the panoramic views of the Tokachi plains from Naitai Terrace observation deck and perhaps catch sight of some of the approximately 2,000 cows which graze here.

Also known as the five-coloured lake, Lake Onneto was formed by the eruption of Mt. Meakan. Its water changes colour depending on sunlight and temperature, going from a gleaming bottle green to a deep azure. Make a stop here to see what wonderful shade it is today!

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Shiretoko Five Lakes look whimsically like a god’s handprint and can be visited via an elevated boardwalk to protect the fragile ecosystems. From here, you can enjoy views of the lake, Sea of Okhotsk and surrounding mountains.

Located on a sandbar between Lake Tofutsu and the Sea of Okhotsk, the Koshimizu Natural Flower Garden comes into bloom with around 40 varieties of wildflowers in summer. Frolic amongst the blooms as you admire the scenery of the Shiretoko mountains and sea beyond.

Later, drive along the stunning coastline up to Cape Notoro. The cape juts defiantly out into the Sea of Okhotsk and boasts an endless view of the sea accented by its black and white lighthouse.

Explore nature with the backdrop of the Daisetsu mountains at Daisetsu Mori no Garden today. Divided into two distinct areas, enjoy seasonal flowers in curated gardens in one zone, and relax and play amongst forests and wildflowers in the other.

Stroll round the curated flower fields of Zerubu no Oka where around 30 kinds of flowers come into bloom each summer. Get an aerial view of the floral designs created by the blooms from the observation deck, accompanied by the natural backdrop of the Tokachi mountain range.

Afterwards, enjoy the cheerful blossoms at Shikisai no Oka, the ‘Hill of Four Seasons’. The undulating hills of flowers are especially gorgeous in summer when in full bloom and can be appreciated by strolling through the park, or taking a ride on the tractor bus.

Enjoy a delicious meal of barbequed meats at the cosy Log House Wagyu Bibi Restaurant. Feast on juicy, tender wagyu beef and more at this table barbeque restaurant guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds.

After lunch, stroll along the shore of the beautiful Lake Shikotsu. This crater lake formed over 40,000 years ago is one of the deepest and clearest lakes in Japan. Take a glass-bottomed boat cruise on the lake to truly appreciate its natural beauty and the exceptional ‘Shikotsu blue’.
