Beginning your journey in Fukuoka this morning, start off by visiting a fruit farm for some pear picking. In season at this time, take your pick of large, juicy pears from the tree and try them on the spot.

Option 1:

Spend the day exploring Tashibu no Sho, one of Kyushu’s best preserved rural landscapes. Part of the Kunisaki Peninsula’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, this historic area showcases traditional rice fields, irrigation channels and farmhouses that reflect centuries-old agricultural practices. Take a walk through the village for a rare glimpse into Japan’s countryside.  

Option 2:

Pay a visit to a pottery workshop in the old castle town of Usuki and learn about Usuki Pottery. A rare form of pottery originating in the late Edo period, Usuki pottery was abandoned for around 200 years before local potters revived it again. Designed with the goal of accentuating the food placed on it, get hands on in creating your own masterpiece in a pottery-making experience.

Taking a shinkansen over to Iwakuni today, visit Kintaikyo Bridge, one of the three most famous bridges in Japan stretching across the 200-metre width of the Nishiki River. Constructed from six different kinds of wood joined by expert craftsmanship, the five wooden arches of the bridge are so picturesque that they have been awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide to Japan.

Option 1:

Spend the day exploring the acclaimed Simose Art Museum, where contemporary art, design and nature exist in perfect harmony. Travel out to Yanai’s Shirakabe no Machinami, one of western Japan’s best-preserved historic merchant districts. Lined with elegant white-walled storehouses, this atmospheric street dates back to the Edo period, when Yanai flourished as a prosperous trading town along the Seto Inland Sea. Stroll through the charming lanes and discover traditional townhouses, small museums, craft shops and local sweet stores, offering a glimpse into Japan’s commercial heritage and refined craftsmanship.

Later, do some shopping at The Outlets Hiroshima, an extensive shopping mall with the largest selection of outlet stores in the region. Peruse a wide selection of Japanese and international brands, local goods and souvenirs, and explore the many available entertainment options too.

Participate in curated off-ship excursions at pitstops along your journey and lavish in more relaxation on board guntû as you make full use of its facilities throughout your voyage. Lounge on the engawa, a Japanese veranda, as you contemplate the passing scenery, partake in wagashi sweets and tea made fresh before you in the Lounge, and soak in rejuvenating cypress baths looking out over the tranquil sea.
