Arriving in Hokkaido this afternoon, shopping to your heart's content at Chitose Outlet Mall Rera. Home to over 400 brands ranging from fashion to toys to household products, Hokkaido's first large scale outlet mall is the perfect place for a shopping spree!
Day 03 (Mon, 19 Dec'22)
Modelled after Denmark’s Egeskov Castle, Noboribetsu Marine Park Nixe is a theme park that is home to around 20,000 marine creatures and other animals of about 400 different species. You can watch shows put on by dolphins and sea lions, see penguins on parade, witness a ‘milky way’ of over 10,000 sardines and watch seals ‘fly’ through a vertical ring-shaped tank.
Stopping by at the Noboribetsu Hell Valley, you can see the source of Noboribetsu’s hot spring waters. With patches of barren landscape, clouds of steam spouting from vents, flowing streams of hot spring water and the heavy smell of sulphur permeating the air, it is not difficult to understand why this place is called “hell valley”.
Day 04 (Tue, 20 Dec'22)
Try your hand at soba making this morning and see who makes the best looking and tastiest soba! Then enjoy the fruits of your labour by savouring your handmade soba with some piping hot broth in a fulfilling lunch.
Following that, head to the Shikotsu-Toya National Park to see Mt Usu, an active volcano that stands at 737 metres high. Take the Mt Usu Ropeway up the side of the mountain for a panoramic view of the spectacular snowy mountains and surrounding landscapes, along with neighbouring Showa Shinzan and Lake Toya.
Enjoy a sweet treat at Lake Hill Farm, a gelato shop and restaurant on a small hill. Serving up 20 varieties of gelato made using milk from the farm itself, try the seasonal flavours made using locally produced fruits and vegetables.
Day 05 - 07 (Wed - Fri, 21 - 23 Dec'22)
Rusutsu's spectacular scenery and long, wide-groomed runs on undulating slopes are some of the best in the world. Skiing directly above the resort is available on West Mountain, while most of the terrain is spread across the gondola-linked East Mountain and its lift-linked Mount Isola, with over 42km of runs. With 30 percent of its terrain suitable for beginners, 40 percent for intermediates and 30 percent for advanced, skiers of all levels will find a course of their own in Hokkaido’s famed powder snow.
*Please note that ski wear rental, equipment rental, lessons and other activities are charged separately and require reservations in advance.
Start the day at Fukidashi Park and sample the sweet spring water that flows down from Mt. Yotei, Hokkaido’s Mt. Fuji. Nestled at the foot of the mountain, 80,000 tons of water filtered down from the peak gushes out each day. Don’t forget to do as the locals do and bring an empty bottle to collect some of it!
Spend some time wandering round the quaint streets of Otaru this afternoon. A former major herring centre and the terminal station for Hokkaido’s first railroad, the charming buildings that line the streets now house whimsical music box museums, patisseries selling mouth-watering creations, and intricate glassware ornaments.
Hokkaido’s chocolate haven and home of the popular Shiroi Koibito langue de chat, Shiroi Koibito Park is a whimsical theme park dedicated to chocolate. Get a glimpse into the production process of its famous biscuits, learn the history of chocolate, and perhaps decorate your own original cookies! Indulge in a world of chocolate goodness at the park where its sweet aroma surrounds you!
This morning, visit the Sapporo Curb Market, a collection of nearly 80 stores outside Sapporo’s central wholesale market. Specialising in seafood, and you can get some of the freshest ones here. Try some of the seasonal offerings from the various stalls and pick up some Hokkaido souvenirs.
The setting for the 1972 Winter Olympics, the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium has been hosting many ski events and competitions since. When it is not used for events, a ride on the chair lift will bring you a fantastic view of Sapporo from the top of the ski jump. At its foot, the Sapporo Winter Sports Museum is where you can find out about the 1972 Olympics and different types of winter sports. There are also simulation games where you can experience ski jumping, bob sledding and ice skating.

A free and easy day in Sapporo awaits you! As Japan’s fifth largest city, Sapporo has developed rapidly into a bustling metropolis. Options for shopping are abundant, both above and underground, with multi-storey department stores such as Daimaru and Esta lining the streets, and a network of stores offering souvenirs, apparel, footwear, cosmetics, electronics, and more, underground. When you are satisfied with your shopping spree, stop by at the Ramen Republic for a steaming bowl of Hokkaido’s signature miso ramen to complete your Hokkaido experience.
