Singapore – Hiroshima

Arriving in Hiroshima, take a ferry to Miyajima, home to one of Japan’s most photographed sights and one of its top three most scenic views. The red-lacquered complex of Itsukushima Shrine and its famous torii gate seemingly float on water, painting a perfect picture of beauty and calm. A well-known UNESCO World Heritage Site, boardwalks connect the shrine buildings partially built over the sea, making exploring the shrine a unique experience.
Later, feast on Hiroshima’s seafood specialty – oysters! As the top producer of oysters in Japan, Hiroshima’s oysters are thick and tasty and are a must-try when in season! Have your fill of delicious oysters at lunch before spending some free time in Hiroshima City this afternoon.
Day 02 (Fri, 14 Jun’19)
Hiroshima – Kaike Onsen
Hotel: Kasuitei (hot spring) or similar
The specialty of Izumo, Izumo Soba is one of Japan’s three major soba dishes. Made using the whole buckwheat seed, these soba noodles have a richer flavour and chewier texture. Eat it in soup flavoured with sauce, or as warigo, served in tiered lacquerware with toppings and a slightly sweet sauce to pour over it.
Flower and bird lovers will surely like Matsue Vogel Park where thousands of flowers and around 80 species of birds fill one of the largest greenhouses in the world. See and interact with birds from around the world and be entertained by the various bird shows, then take a stroll amongst flowers like begonias, fuchsias and more which bloom all year round here.
Day 03 (Sat, 15 Jun’19)
Hotel: Kasuitei (hot spring) or similar
Established in 1980 by Adachi Zenko in order to combine his love of art and garden design, the Adachi Museum of Art houses a collection of renowned Japanese paintings, ceramics and other artwork. However, it is best known for its award-winning gardens. The six stunning gardens here are said to be “as beautiful as pictures” and are indeed incredibly photogenic.
The small island of Daikonshima is famous for its production of high-quality Korean Ginseng that is exported around the world. As one of only three places in Japan cultivating Korean ginseng, you can find all kinds of ginseng products here, from ginseng tea to tempura and even ice cream!
As you travel to the next destination, keep an eye out for the Eshima Ohashi Bridge, the famed “roller coaster bridge”, so called for a steep sloping angle like the ascent of a roller coaster. The drive onto the bridge itself is not as thrilling as the sight of it may suggest, but the view from the top is nonetheless fantastic.
Stop by Sweets Castle Kotobukijo, a popular sweets store that sells confections from the Sanin area. Not only does it sell a large variety of sweets, the store itself is modelled after the former Yonago castle and is an amusing sight to see.

Kaike Onsen – Tottori
Hotel: Hotel New Otani Tottori or similar
Japan’s one and only museum showcasing everything about pears, the Tottori Nijisseiki Pear Museum is a pear paradise. Centred around a great pear tree with a branch span of 20m, the museum is replete with exhibits and information on Asian pear history and agriculture. See, and taste, the story of the Nijisseiki Pear, most deliciously served in the form of soft serve ice cream!
Next, visit the icon of Tottori, the Tottori Sand Dunes. More than just the splendid views, experience the fantastic dunes in an exciting sand sledding activity! Instead of snow, sled down the sandy dunes at an angle of up to 30 degrees in a thrilling ride with the vast Sea of Japan spread out before you!
After some fun in the sand, head over to the Tottori Sand Museum to marvel at some sand art! The world’s first museum specialising in sand sculptures, masterpieces by sculptors from around the world are exhibited here. As the sculptures are made of sand, they eventually collapse, making their transience part of the attraction.
This evening, dine at Japan’s original shabu shabu restaurant. A dish that is now available all over Japan, shabu shabu originated when the restaurant’s founder brought the style of eating thin slices of meat lightly cooked in soup to Tottori from China. Replacing mutton with Tottori’s famous Olein 55 wagyu beef, shabu shabu here is matched perfectly with a sesame sauce in a mouth-watering combination.
