Arriving in Fukuoka this morning, pay a visit to the ‘Kitchen of Kitakyushu’, Tanga Market. Originating along the banks of the Kantake river where fish were offloaded in the early 1900s, the market has since expanded into a group of about 120 stores while retaining a retro Showa era vibe. Stroll through the narrow streets of the market and sample some of the freshest seafood and produce.

Have a good lunch and get some rest this afternoon, or spend some time exploring the many sights and shops around Fukuoka City.

This morning, you will get on board the Luxury Cruise Train Seven Stars in Kyushu, Japan’s first luxury train and its answer to the Orient Express. Akin to a museum on wheels, the train is decked out in Kyushu’s finest crafts, including exquisite porcelain basins, the final works of former Japanese National Living Treasure, Sakaida Kakiemon the 14th, and elegant Okawa kumiko latticed wood panels. Bringing you on a journey through Kyushu’s glorious sights in style and comfort, the warm wooden interiors of the train are matched by the hospitality of the onboard staff and welcoming locals who take great pride in the Seven Stars visiting their hometowns. 

Begin with a Welcome Ceremony at the Seven Stars’ exclusive pre-departure lounge at Hakata Station before embarking on your journey. Bringing you first to the hot spring town of Yufuin, enjoy a pleasant stroll along the streets and stop by the peaceful Lake Kirinko and other less well-known spots in town. On board, savour delicious green tea carefully prepared for you in a tea ceremony in a cosy Japanese-style tea room.

Delight in the tastes of Kyushu together with the passing scenery in the comfortable lounge car, Blue Moon. With onboard dining featuring menus by some of Kyushu’s top chefs, dine on delectable meals prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients and curated to tantalise your palate.

 

Day 04 (Tue, 03 Dec’25)

Waking up in Aso this morning, have breakfast at Kasei, Seven Stars’ exclusive restaurant located right on the station platform. You will have the option of an excursion to experience Hosokawa style Bonseki, an ancient art form using rocks and sand to create miniature landscapes on black trays, or to stay on board and lavish the scenery as you travel on to Kumamoto via the Tateno switchback.

Dine on a special lunch prepared for you at Taishoji Temple, the family temple of the Hosokawa clan which ruled Kumamoto for two centuries, before taking a high speed ferry across the Ariake Sea to Unzen where you will stay in a ryokan for the night.

 

Day 05 (Wed, 04 Dec’25)
Unzen – Nagasaki – Tosu

Early risers can take part in a nature walk around Shirakumo Lake before embarking on the day’s journey. Spend more time luxuriating in the hot springs and exploring the highlights of Unzen, or go on chartered train ride along the Shimabara Railway, a scenic coastal railway home to Japan’s closest station to the sea.

Back on Seven Stars, experience Nagasaki’s unique ‘Wakaran’ culture this evening. A fusion of traditional Japanese, Chinese and Dutch cultures and culinary influences, Wakaran is the culmination of varied influences in Nagasaki, one of the first ports to open to foreign settlers. Immerse in this unique culture at dinnertime with a feast of ‘Shippoku’, Wakaran fusion cuisine, while you are entertained by Kenban, the geisha of Nagasaki.

 

Day 06 (Thu, 05 Dec’25)
Kokura – Usa – Kitsuki – Beppu – Fukuoka

For the final leg of your journey, travel down the Nippo line to the Kunisaki Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of circulation type agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Take an excursion to explore the traditional agricultural systems, including kunugi sawtooth oak forests, irrigation lakes, and a log-grown shiitake mushroom farm. Back on board, you will have the option to take part in Shichitoui Crafting where you can learn to use local shichitoui plants to weave small coasters and other crafts.

Before your journey on the Seven Stars comes to an end, bid farewell to the onboard crew and relish in the shared memories created in a farewell event before disembarking at Hakata Station. 

 

Day 07 (Fri, 06 Dec’25)
Fukuoka – Osaka – Nara

Take a domestic flight to Osaka this morning, following which you will transfer over to your accommodation in Nara.

And when you tire of shopping, take a break at the countless restaurants, cafes, and roadside stalls offering all kinds of gastronomic delights from street favourites to fine dining in the ‘Kitchen of Japan’.
